OCR: The Chiseled Steel "look' To take our examples even farther, we need to examine other types of 3D effects commonly used in computer graphics. One key effect we call a Recess. Recess - A Recess is often used to make it appear that something is sticking through a dialog box - like a button for example. This is done (usually) to give the visual impression that the button is protruding through a hole in the dialog box much like buttons on your VCR stick through holes in the front-panel. A Recess is somewhat more complicated to draw but the effect can make a tremendous difference in a dialog box's visual appearance.
